Asian Hair & Beauty Golden Bauhinia Awards

By Anna Maria Little

Today marked the beginning of the seventh annual Asian Hair & Beauty Golden Bauhinia Awards. This year’s installment is taking place on the beautiful island of Bali. The event, spanning from November 19 through the 22, is sponsored by the Asian Beauty Industry Cultural Exchange Association and hosted by the Indonesian Beauty & Hair Dressing Association—also known as the Gold Buahinia. A wealth of Asian countries will be represented by the attendees, including China, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Burma, India, and the Philippines.

The awards show will take place on November 22, while the preceding three days will be devoted to education, entertainment, and opportunities for those in attendance to network. The four-day event acts as a meeting ground for professionals from across Asia to exchange ideas and skills across national and cultural borders.

Meiggy Marwi, one of the event administrators, explains, “The aim [of the event] is to promote the exchange and development of skills, talents, education, [and] information through the integration of resources of the beauty industry’s cultural and industrial markets in Asia.”

Assorted personalities from Asia’s high fashion scene will also make an appearance at the event, and a fashion show will occur in which up and coming trends in clothing, hair, and beauty, will be showcased to the attendees.

The aim [of the event] is to promote the exchange and development of skills, talents, education, [and] information through the integration of resources of the beauty industry’s cultural and industrial markets in Asia.

Another special event, The Asian Beauty Industry International Forum, will consist of hosts offering additional information about the industry. The board will primarily focus on technology and information, talent cultivation, and enterprise development.
The awards show, however, is the most anticipated portion of the event. Fifteen much sought after “Golden Bauhinia” awards will be presented to the most outstanding personas, hairstylists, makeup artists, nail technicians, and entrepreneurs in the field, as well as the overall star of the year.

Nine additional “Enterprise Awards” will also be given out at the event. These will go to brands judged to be the most valuable and influential in the Asian beauty industry, as well as salons and schools who have achieved excellence. The “Asian Beauty Industry Star Brand of the Year” award will also be chosen.

According to Meiggy Marwi, the award ceremony is to distribute awards for the highest honor in the Asian hair and beauty industry, and is the event most looked forward to all week. It takes on the ethos of the event as a whole, acting as a symbol of the pan-cultural unity and progress that the function is designed to achieve and promote for the future of Asian beauty.
