Inside Cosmo Prof’s Brenda Espinosa

Love your Curls

Exclusive interview: Curly hair specialist with the desire to help clients embrace and love their curls and coils.

The Beauty Consultant Magazine (TBC): What advice would you give to stylists who are managing a busy December filled to the brim with pre-holiday appointments?
Brenda Espinosa (BE): My advice is to work your scheduled hours and try not to take any last-minute clients or any extra appointments. I understand as a stylist, it’s hard to tell clients no, but you also need to prioritize your personal life, peace, and health. Doing so will help keep a healthy work-life balance.

TBC: What hair trends, cuts, and techniques are you expecting to rise in 2024?
BE: I see curly fringe coming back. Not everyone wants a full bang, so with the fringe curly look, they can wear the hair either to the side or to the front. Clients love that versatility.

TBC: What advice would you give to new professionals entering their first busy season?
BE: My advice is always to plan a time to eat your lunch because burnout can definitely happen. Focus on your client and try not to take multiple clients at once if you are starting out. Don’t feel bad if you can’t take on any last-minute clients to your schedule – you’re only one person, and you’re doing everything you can! Remember to keep a healthy work/life balance to avoid burnout.

TBC: What is your #1 tip for managing burnout?
BE: Take time for yourself & family. Take care of your body. Drink lots of water, eat, and make sure to get enough sleep. Doing so will help your mind, body, and mental health. If we take care of ourselves, we will be energized and ready to give our best to our clients & most importantly, our families.
