Roots Rose Radish
All-natural beauty line goes for luxury and utility with their Rose Face Oil

By Anna Maria Little

Christian Toscano isn’t your average beauty line owner. In fact, her first trade wasn’t beauty. She started out as a midwife (and still practices in the Los Angeles area), and a natural medicine guru. Over the years, however, she grew tired of being unable to find natural beauty products that matched her lifestyle, so she set out to make her own keeping in mind the possibility of converting other people to her way of life along the way. “I had just graduated from herbal medicine school and found that I wanted to develop a line of products that were entirely plant-based that would be a bridge for people to herbal medicine,” she explained.

And as such, Roots Rose Radish was born.

The line maintains strict ethics throughout their process of sourcing, production, and distribution. They do not allow animal cruelty or large scale production, and they keep packaging and resource consumption to a minimum.

The line is also vegan, save for their lip balms, which contain beeswax and honey. Bee lovers need not worry though—these products are sourced from a local aviary in small batches to keep their footprint as small as possible.

“I had just graduated from herbal medicine school and found that I wanted to develop a line of products that were entirely plant-based that would be a bridge for people to herbal medicine.”

One of the line’s bestselling products is the Rose Face Oil. In Toscano’s words, “This is just a really indulgent, delightful treatment.” It contains more than 12 different flowers and essential oils, and is made with pure, cold-pressed, unrefined primrose oil—a feature many similar products do not include. “A lot of products with rose scents are artificially scented,” Toscano explains, “but ours is very high quality rose and therefore is loaded with Vitamin C.”

Along with the Vitamin C, the oil is also a great source for Vitamin E and A, linoleic acid, and GLA (an omega-6 fatty acid). These ingredients aid in cell regeneration and elasticity, work to combat breakouts, and also soothe irritated skin.

Over the past year, oils of many kinds have become increasingly popular in the beauty world as both primers before makeup application and nighttime beauty treatments. The combined effects of the Rose Face Oil work to balance the skin and its sebum production, instead of continuing the cycle of strip-and-replace.

“We are taught to scrub our face, take all the oils off, and then put them back on using a moisturizer,” Toscano laughs. This cycle is not only unnecessary, but it’s exhausting to the skin. “With this product,” she says, “you’re just balancing what your body is naturally producing every day.” Clients can rest easy knowing that their skin is receiving the best possible primer and being given the five-star treatment at the same time.
