The biggest names in fashion and Hollywood joined together at the 2013 Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala to celebrate this year\u2019s exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, hosted by <\/span>Vogue<\/i><\/span>. Marked as the fashion industry\u2019s \u201cNight of Nights,\u201d stars and fashion insiders pushed the boundaries this year to showcase the extremes of PUNK culture. <\/span>Vogue<\/i><\/span> tapped into the uber-talents of mega-celebrity hairstylist Jim Crawford to showcase both ends of the PUNK spectrum. By using Ren\u00e9 Furterer products exclusively, Crawford channeled the chaotic street version of punk on <\/span>Vogue<\/i><\/span>\u2019s own Senior Market Editor, Meredith Melling Burke, and the glamorous side of punk for <\/span>Vogue\u2019s<\/i><\/span> guest, Olympic gold-medal winner Lindsey Vonn.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

STREET PUNK REDEFINED<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0To celebrate the rebellious punk spirit in the streets of 1970s London and New York City, Crawford sculpted a deconstructed updo for Meredith. \u201cI wanted to create a romantic punk updo with different textures and finishes,\u201d said Crawford. The result: shiny, wild hair that screamed chaos and punk! <\/span><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Before constructing the updo, I prepped dry hair by applying different products to create a variety of textures and finishes to the look. I start with <\/span>Ren\u00e9 Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing foam<\/b><\/span><\/a><\/em> throughout her whole head and sprayed <\/span>NATURIA dry shampoo<\/em><\/b><\/span><\/a> on the roots to create volume and texture.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>To create a smooth finish, I applied <\/span>Ren\u00e9 Furterer FIORAVANTI no<\/em> rinse detangling spray<\/em><\/b><\/span><\/a> and <\/span>VEGETAL GLOSSING SPRAY<\/em><\/b><\/span><\/a> all over for shine, and then I tweaked the ends with a mini flat iron.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>To start the updo, I first braided the hair into two side braids before deconstructing them by pulling out strands and loosening it with a wide tooth comb and my fingers. This way the different finishes, the soft shiny pieces and the wet-looking strands <\/span>\u2500<\/span> both created by applying all different prep products <\/span>\u2500<\/span> are shown next to each other.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>To finish, I pulled up the rest of the hair into a messy updo and secured it with bobby pins. I topped the hair by spraying <\/span>Ren\u00e9 Furterer VEGETAL FINISHING SPRAY<\/b><\/span><\/a><\/em> all over for a soft hold to carry her through the night.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Taking punk from street to runway, Crawford took cues from Fall 2013 shows to create a couture-worthy, slicked-back look with a severe side part for Lindsey. As this was Lindsey\u2019s first red carpet appearance with her beau, Tiger Woods, Crawford wanted to create something modern and upscale to carry her all through the evening. \u201cWith the theme for this year\u2019s Met Gala as punk, I went for a new look that takes Lindsey out of her comfort zone by creating a fashion-forward look directly from Fall 2013 runway shows<\/span>.\u201d <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Starting with towel-dried, damp hair, I applied <\/span>Ren\u00e9 Furterer MYRRHEA no rinse silkening fluid<\/b><\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Ren\u00e9 Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray – no rinse<\/b><\/span><\/a> and <\/span>volumizing foam – no rinse<\/b><\/span><\/a><\/em> all throughout to create a smooth but full base. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I also smoothed <\/span>REN\u00c9 FURTERER VEGETAL SCULPTING GEL<\/b><\/span><\/a> along the hairline to make it easier to sculpt her bangs once her hair was dried.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Once I prepped her hair with products, I did her blowout using my fingers and my Mason Pearson brush for a straight and sleek finish.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Next, I created a deep side part with sculpted bangs and combed the rest of the hair back. I pulled the sides in tightly as I secured her hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, spraying <\/span>Ren\u00e9 Furterer VEGETAL FINISHING SPRAY<\/b><\/span><\/a> to create a smooth finish.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
