The Salon Industry Comes Together to Help Professionals Impacted by Hurricane Sandy

Sunday, December 9, 2012 | Broadcast Live from New York City

The salon industry is coming together in an unprecedented show of unity and support to raise awareness and money for hairdressers impacted by Hurricane Sandy. “Hairdressers Helping Hairdressers” is an industry-wide event to be held Sunday, December 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. EST at Canoe Studios in New York City. The event will also be broadcast live to allow beauty professionals world-wide to participate.

Set to feature some of the industry’s biggest stars, and supported by multiple product manufacturers, distributors and media outlets, all ticket proceeds and donations from the event will benefit the Professional Beauty Association’s (PBA) Disaster Relief Fund. The PBA Disaster Relief Fund awards 100% of funds raised to help industry professionals impacted by natural disasters as they begin rebuilding.

Several cross-manufacturer teams have come together with the simple focus of raising as much money and awareness as possible to help hairdressers impacted by the hurricane. “There are a number of local and individual efforts underway to help our hairdresser community, and there are many others across the country who want to help. We are rallying our industry to make an impact for the thousands of hairdressers who need assistance now,” said Steve Sleeper, Executive Director, Professional Beauty Association.

Top platform and celebrity artists are scheduled to perform at the “Hairdressers Helping Hairdressers” benefit event, including: Nick Berardi, Goldwell, Joico, KMS, Oribe, Sassoon, Sebastian, Wella, and Zotos, to name a few. In addition, national distributors Sally Beauty/BSG, SalonCentric and DePasquale Companies as well as Pivot Point International, will be making special donations to the cause.

In addition to the hair and fashion shows, the event will include a silent auction. Up to 600 tickets will be available at a price of $100 each. To purchase tickets, visit www.behindthechair.com/hhh.

For those unable to attend the event in New York City, the benefit will be webcast live and online donations are accepted at www.probeauty.org/disaster-relief-fund. To watch the “Hairdressers Helping Hairdressers” benefit, log on to any of these industry sites: www.behindthechair.com/hhh, www.hairbrained.me, www.modernsalon.com or www.salonprofessionalinteractive.com.

Originally organized by the Professional Beauty Association, The Wella Company and behindthechair.com with the specific intention of making this a unified, industry-wide benefit. Many others have joined the cause to lend their time and talents. “This is the time we all leave our jerseys at the door and come together as an industry to support our own,” said Reuben Carranza, CEO for Wella North America.

The PBA Disaster Relief Fund was established in 1955 to assist salon professionals as they begin to rebuild from natural disaster. Over the course of five decades, the fund has been there for professionals in times of dire need.  For beauty professionals, donating to the PBA Disaster Relief Fund ensures that 100% of your contribution will go to help fellow members of the beauty community to rebuild their lives and careers. Salon professionals who wish to make a tax deductible donation may donate directly to the PBA Disaster Relief Fund at www.probeauty.org/disaster-relief-fund.
